Cloudflare is taking in the startup co-founded by Node.js creator Ryan Dahl, a longtime competitor, and the entire team behind the Deno runtime is joining.

The move consolidates power in serverless and AI-agent infrastructure.

Dahl and co-founder Bert Belder will lead work to let developers run Workers apps on their own infrastructure, folding code from Deno’s celld into Cloudflare’s open-source runtime, workerd.

The hosted Deno Deploy platform will shut down in about six months. The Deno runtime will get a year of bug-fix and security releases before development ends.

Dahl named AI agent harnesses as a main target. The JSR package registry will continue under Cloudflare.
